Add another Quebec director to the list of those headed to Cannes. Marie-Josée Saint-Pierre’s animated documentary short, Jutra, will be part of the Director’s Fortnight, which runs May 15-25. Her portrait of famed Quebec filmmaker Claude Jutra joins Xavier Dolan’s Mommy (in competition), Stéphane Lafleur’s Tu dors Nicole (also part of the Directors Fortnight) and Rémi St-Michel’s Petit frère (Semaine de la critique).
Jutra is a 13-minute film co-produced with the NFB, mixing archival footage and animated sequences. It will also be presented at Toronto’s Hot Docs festival, April 24 to May 4. Saint-Pierre’s previous films include Post-Partum, Passages, McLaren’s Negatives and Le projet Sapporo.
